One Brooklyn Health cyberattack disrupts clinical workflows across three hospitals

On November 19, 2022, One Brooklyn Health detected a cybersecurity incident affecting its computer systems and proactively took systems offline. The disruption affected operations across Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, Interfaith Medical Center and Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center. Clinical personnel relied on paper documentation and alternative communication procedures while electronic health record and other hospital applications were unavailable or undergoing restoration. The organization acknowledged disruption to facility operations, and independent reporting documented prolonged manual workflows and difficulties accessing clinical systems. Subsequent investigation established that an unauthorized actor had accessed the network and acquired certain information. Healthcare services continued under contingency procedures, although important supporting clinical workflows were materially degraded.
