During the night of November 16-17, 2022, an external cyberattack compromised the Municipality of Torre del Greco in Italy and blocked municipal office operations. Mayor Giovanni Palomba publicly confirmed that the incident prevented normal administrative activity and forced the suspension of services to citizens, including a formally announced interruption on November 18 until further notice. Attackers demanded EUR 200000 in exchange for releasing compromised data. Municipal technicians and Italy's postal police investigated and responded to the incident. The cyberattack therefore caused a directly documented interruption of local-government service delivery. The ransom demand is not treated as a verified payment or financial loss.
