EPM ransomware disrupts prepaid energy and water customer services

A ransomware incident detected by EPM on December 12, 2022 disabled approximately 30 percent of its IT infrastructure and interrupted digital payments, prepaid electricity and water top-ups, billing and contracting transactions. EPM provided contingency recharge and tanker-water arrangements to affected prepaid users; its generation plants and operational control centers were not compromised. Prepaid energy and water functions were restored on December 14 and 18 respectively.
