Enercity cyberattack disrupts billing and payment operations while energy supply continues

On October 26, 2022, German energy supplier Enercity suffered a cyberattack affecting corporate IT systems. Company disclosures confirmed the intrusion and subsequent identification of stolen data. Independent reporting based on Enercity's communications to industry counterparties documented restrictions affecting payment connectivity, energy billing and settlement-related business processes. These disruptions materially affected commercial operations, although electricity and gas delivery to customers continued and Enercity stated that its critical supply infrastructure was not endangered.
