Ransomware at Austin Peay State University cancels scheduled final exams

Austin Peay State University experienced a ransomware attack on April 27, 2022, disrupting campus computers, network availability and academic operations. The university expressly cancelled final exams scheduled for Friday, April 29, and instructed instructors to determine grades using coursework already completed. Campus computer and network access began returning by April 30, and the following week’s examinations were to proceed as planned. The cyber event therefore had a documented direct impact on the delivery and scheduling of education rather than merely exposing university data.
