Costa Rica CCSS Hive ransomware interrupts healthcare scheduling and clinical IT

On May 31, 2022, Hive ransomware hit the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social, forcing the public health provider to disconnect central medical-information and administrative systems. Hospitals had to reschedule 78,959 appointments and procedures in the following weeks, although authorities reported that the great majority of healthcare visits continued and emergency and inpatient services remained available. Loss of access to electronic records and scheduling materially degraded healthcare delivery.
