Somerset County ransomware disrupts government offices and public-facing services

On May 24, 2022, a ransomware incident forced Somerset County, New Jersey to disconnect networked computers and email. Its county commissioners' meeting was cancelled and residents were advised to verify service and appointment availability, while county clerk and surrogate services lost access to current land records, vital statistics and probate databases and offices moved to alternate contact arrangements. County notices document recovery of most office systems and email by June 6; emergency response, transit, elections and recycling continued.
