Rio de Janeiro municipal cyberattack disables tax and social-service portals

On August 15, 2022 Rio de Janeiro city government detected an attack on its municipal IT systems and took online services offline. The Carioca Digital and Nota Carioca portals stopped working, disrupting electronic invoicing and tax-related functions, while public-assistance centers could not process CadÚnico registrations. Some services required manual or in-person alternatives as phased restorations continued into September. Reporting on taxi and health-service availability was inconsistent, so those functions are not counted as disrupted here.
