Ransomware forces network disconnections across Spanish CSIC research centers

Spain's CSIC suffered a ransomware attack on July 16–17, 2022, detected on July 18. Containment required taking access to the network offline across multiple research centers, constraining connectivity and research-support services; by August 2 only slightly more than one quarter of centers had reconnected. The ministry reported no detected loss or sequestration of sensitive information at that time.
