Bernalillo County ransomware closes government offices and disrupts detention operations

Bernalillo County discovered a suspected ransomware intrusion on the morning of 5 January 2022 and disconnected affected systems. Most public-facing county buildings closed on 6 and 7 January, affecting in-person government service delivery. The Metropolitan Detention Center separately lost access to essential cameras and inmate-management systems, necessitating operational restrictions. The county stated that 911 and emergency response remained functional.
