University of Duisburg-Essen ransomware disrupts academic IT and examinations

A late-November 2022 ransomware attack against the University of Duisburg-Essen encrypted large numbers of its servers and disabled university-wide digital services. While in-person lectures generally continued, teaching and academic administration were materially degraded, electronic resources were unavailable and some examinations were postponed or canceled. Restoration continued into the following months; the 11 January 2022 date in the candidate record is inconsistent with institutional disclosures.
