Crystal Valley ransomware disrupts fertilizer production, feed orders and grain intake

A ransomware attack discovered September 19, 2021 infected Crystal Valley Cooperative computer systems and forced digital operations offline during harvest. The cooperative stopped accepting major credit-card payments, and grain elevators switched to slower handwritten intake tickets while continuing to receive grain. A farmer interviewed directly by Reuters said the outage also prevented fertilizer mixing and fulfilling livestock-feed orders, leading other local cooperatives to assist with feed preparation.
