Heriot-Watt University cyberattack impairs remote learning and administrative systems

Around 15 March 2022, Heriot-Watt University identified a cyberattack affecting on-premises IT systems. Remote VPN access, an Oracle R12 finance system, shared staff storage and directories remained unavailable into the following week, forcing use of alternative systems. A subsequent academic study also reports that remote learning was hampered for more than a week, while the university reported that other cloud-based services continued operating.
