Cyberattack disables Sonae MC online retail and Continente loyalty-app services
On 30 March 2022, Portuguese retailer MC (Sonae's food-retail business, formerly Sonae MC) detected a cyberattack and took affected systems offline. Continente Online stopped accepting online purchases, while the Continente Card app and certain associated digital loyalty/payment functions were unavailable. The company reported restoration of online shopping and most app features on 6 April, around one week later. MC explicitly stated that its physical stores and essential in-store services had continued operating; claims of physical retail shutdown are unsupported.
